WNCC Douglas Presents Young Chautaquan as Amelia Earhart

A 17-year-old senior at Douglas High School will portray famed aviator Amelia Earhart at Western Nevada Community College Douglas Presents, Friday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. Young Chautauquan Megan Laubert is in her first year of Chautauqua. The Chautauqua group is designed to help young people learn how to properly portray a character in history and how to speak and perform in front of an audience. Laubert also designed the logo for the 2004 Young Chautauquan T-shirts.

Earhart held many flying records, including being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and non-stop coast to coast. In 1937 Earhart attempted to be the first woman to fly around the world. She and her navigator disappeared over the mid-Pacific Ocean with about 7,000 miles to complete on their 29,000-mile journey.

WNCC Douglas Presents is a free lecture series at the Douglas campus, 1680 Bently Parkway South in Minden, on the second Friday of the month. Refreshments are served. For more information, call 782-2413.
