Western Nevada Community College is now in the second year of a partnership with Nevada State College to offer upper division courses in WNCC's service area for students seeking a bachelor's degree in elementary education. To help current and prospective students plan a course of study towards the degree, the college is hosting monthly advisement sessions. Francine Mayfield, Director of Education at Nevada State College, will talk to students on Monday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. in Marlette Hall at the Carson City campus. The next session is on Monday, Dec. 13, in Fallon.
In the collaboration, WNCC students who are close to having completed their first two years of transfer courses toward a bachelor's degree in education can enroll in Nevada State College junior and senior level courses offered at WNCC and will be able to earn a bachelor's degree and become prepared for certification as an elementary teacher in Nevada.
In the spring, Nevada State College is offering teacher education courses at WNCC. The interactive video classes will originate in Carson City and Fallon on Friday evenings and Saturdays and will be delivered to students in some WNCC Learning Centers.
Foundation courses available at WNCC include instructional technology, philosophy of science, required 200 level English courses, introductory courses in secondary and special education, and freshman and sophomore courses requiring supervised field experience in the public schools.
