Fallon's Barkley Theater will be rockin' and rollin' for the Western Nevada Community College Fallon Pogonip Players production of "Bye Bye Birdie." Performances are on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 18, 19, and 20, at 7 p.m. at the Barkley Theater, Oats Park Art Center in Fallon.
This romantic comedy has a delightful songbook of '50's-style rock and roll. Conrad Birdie, a character loosely based on Elvis Presley, gets drafted into military service just as his career starts to take off. His agent devises a stunt to promote Birdie's latest hit, "One Last Kiss": a member of the Conrad Birdie Fan Club will give Birdie his last civilian kiss. The lucky girl's boyfriend has other ideas, though.
The original production featured Dick Van Dyke, Chita Rivera and Paul Lynde. Van Dyke and Ann-Margret starred in the 1963 film version.
The Fallon production is directed by Mary Myers. Bridget Rigg-Anderson and James Anderson are assistant directors and the musical director is Noreen Anderson.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased at the WNCC Fallon campus, 160 Campus Way, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
