Western Nevada Community College still has student scholarships available for the spring 2005 semester. Applications are available on the WNCC web site. Completed applications must be turned in by Monday, Jan. 3.
Among the scholarships available are the Workforce Initiative for Nevada Students in Engineering and Technology (WINSET) scholarships. In 2003, the National Science Foundation awarded $369,000 to the college to fund scholarships for Engineering Science, Mathematics, Engineering Technology, and Electronics Technology students. A total of 214 WINSET scholarships of $1,500 per semester may be awarded during the four-year grant period. Awards are renewable each semester until graduation with a maximum award of $3,000 per student per year. Through partnerships with local employers, WINSET students can participate at internships in industries related to their education.
In addition, five scholarships worth $7,500 are still available from the WNCC Foundation. For more information on scholarships, call the WNCC Financial Assistance Office at 445-3264.
