The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company invites open auditions for two spring shows - the recently released Disney blockbuster, "Beauty and the Beast" and the world's longest-running musical, "The Fantasticks," at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Aspen 207 of the Western Nevada Community College Carson City campus.
Auditioners should come prepared to sing a song under one minute long. They may bring a taped accompaniment or provide the accompanist with a musical score. Callbacks and dance auditions for each show will follow on the next two evenings.
Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" comes to the Carson City Community Center in May. Nominated for nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, the production features exquisite songs and spectacular dance numbers like "Belle," "Gaston" and "Be Our Guest."
The cast calls for 16 speaking roles, including eight principals, and a chorus and dance troupe. Casting is principally for adults, but a few children will be accepted. The show will play in eight performances at the Carson City Community Center, May 13-22. General rehearsals will start the beginning of February. "Beauty and the Beast" will be produced and directed by Stephanie Arrigotti and choreographed by Gina Kaskie-Davis.
"The Fantasticks," the longest running musical in the world, opens in March. This is a moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned with their romance, only to discover a more mature relationship. Famous songs from the show include "Try To Remember" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain." Casting calls for nine performers, eight of them singing roles.
The show will play in nine performances on the Western Nevada Community College Carson City campus, March 11-20. "The Fantasticks" will be directed by Bob Grant and produced by Stephanie Arrigotti.
Everyone accepted in either cast must register to participate in the productions. All credit students will receive a scholarship to defray half their tuition. This course applies to the Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Musical Theatre, currently offered at WNCC. For more information, call the WNCC Performing Arts Office at 445-4249.
