April 1 is the deadline for students to apply for Western Nevada Community College Scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year. The college web site has a complete financial aid section with an application form, lists of available scholarships and links to other college finance-related sites.
The WNCC Foundation will award more than 50 scholarships worth about $75,000 to 135 recipients, according to Vice President of Institutional Advancement Helaine Jesse.
"Our donors demonstrate their generosity year after year," Jesse said. "We have scholarships available for all types of students-virtually every academic program, student leaders, single parents, you name it."
Many other scholarships are available for WNCC students, including Millennium Scholarships for qualifying Nevada high school graduates and Workforce Initiative for Nevada Students in Engineering and Technology scholarships for computer science, engineering and mathematics students. Millennium scholars can receive up to $10,000 for their college educations and WINSET recipients receive $1,500 per semester for up to two years at WNCC.
Interim Financial Assistance Director Lori Tiede says the college has worked hard to make the scholarship process straightforward for students and their parents.
"There is a wealth of information on our web site: step-by-step instructions, forms, helpful tips and links to other sites," said Tiede. "Our staff is also available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays."
