Learn to identify some of the many birds that visit Mason Valley at a weekend workshop on spring bird identification at Western Nevada Community College's Yerington Center, 140 N. Main St. Local falconer Julien Pellegrini teaches the non-credit community education class (CMSV 102C, call# 17134) that focuses on songbirds, raptors, shore and wading birds and waterfowl, but attention will be given to all species encountered. The fee is $50.
The class is on Friday, April 22, 7-9 p.m. and all day Saturday, April 23. On Friday evening, students will learn about local bird species and birding techniques. Saturday will feature a field trip to a variety of habitats in and around Mason Valley where students can expect to see and learn to identify a variety of birds. The location for the field trip will be announced Friday night. Students must provide their own transportation or arrange rides with other students on Saturday's field outing.
Pellegrini is a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he is studying wildlife management. He is a general class falconer and has had considerable experience identifying birds and studying birds in the wild.
