Hall of Fame athletic director and coach Joe Sellers is the keynote speaker for "Legends & Tales in Sports," Western Nevada Community College's second annual benefit for baseball, women's soccer, and rodeo. The event is at the Peppermill Hotel Casino in Reno Wednesday, April 27, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 or $500 for a reserved table for eight.
In just a few short years, WNCC's Wildcats athletic program has grown from a dream to an intercollegiate athletic program competing in three sports - rodeo, baseball and women's soccer.
Coach Sellers has the best winning record in the whole of Nevada high school athletics and, arguably, one of the best records of any coach in any sport at any level of athletics. He has coached softball, wrestling, baseball, and football at three Reno area high schools, and is most remembered for his years at Wooster High, where he took the Wooster Colts to seven state football championships. He is now creating another legacy at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno, where the Miners have already won two state football championships. His overall career football record is 250-45.
Sellers was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003.
The evening includes hosted beer and wine, dinner and silent and live auctions. Items being auctioned include lunch for two with UNR head basketball coach Mark Fox, a one-week stay at the Lakeshore House in Glenbrook, a one-year golf membership at Red Hawk Resort and more.
