The E.L. Cord Foundation has awarded $50,000 to Western Nevada Community College to support the operations of the college’s athletic program.
WNCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement Helaine Jesse said, "We are extremely grateful for the support of the Cord Foundation. Since our intercollegiate athletics program receives no state funds, it is only through the generosity of individuals and organizations like the E.L. Cord Foundation that we have been able to build our program so quickly."
Funds from the grant will help support coaches' salaries and equipment needs. WNCC now has three intercollegiate athletic teams: baseball (men), rodeo (men and women), and soccer (women). The Wildcat baseball and soccer teams are Division I members of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the rodeo team competes in the West Coast Region of the National Collegiate Rodeo Association.
