WNCC Honoring Quebecor with Partner Award
Western Nevada Community College is honoring Quebecor World Nevada in Fernley with its first Partner Award. The award will be presented Friday, May 20, at 9 a.m. at the Quebecor plant in Fernley, 2200 E. Newlands Drive.
Quebecor is based in Laval, Quebec, Canada, and is the world's second largest commercial printer. The Fernley facility has a four-color rotogravure printer that specializes in retail inserts and Sunday magazines.
Since beginning their partnership in 1999, WNCC and Quebecor have provided employees classes in computer applications, college math, management and supervision, industrial safety and welding technology. WNCC also offers classes that meet the requirements for Quebecor's printing apprentice program. Quebecor has a tuition assistance program and actively encourages employees to obtain college degrees.
Bus Scharmann, WNCC's Dean of the Fallon Campus and Extended Programs said, "The partnership between WNCC and Quebecor benefits both organizations as well as the entire community. We recognize the high priority Quebecor places on education and we are delighted to have the opportunity to help them design and implement a variety of successful training programs for their team members."
The Quebecor classes are administered through WNCC Employee Training Center.
