Matrix Meets Philosophy at WNCC
"The Matrix" meets the works of Plato and Aristotle in a summer session philosophy class at Western Nevada Community College. The three-credit class, Introduction to Philosophy, meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., at the Carson City campus. WNCC summer session classes begin Monday, June 13.
Register for the class (PHIL 101, Sec. C01, call #28779) on the college web site at www.wncc.edu. The fee is $168.
Instructor Blakely Hume describes the class as "an introduction to philosophy set against the background of ‘The Matrix’ and using examples from the trilogy. We will try to find answers to eternal questions like 'How is our knowledge confounded such that we think things that aren't true' or 'If we are truly free to act anyway we wish, why and how would we act? Would we take the red pill or the blue pill?'"
Students will explore issues in areas of philosophy such as ethics, political theory, metaphysics and epistemology.
