Western Nevada Community College is signing 11 Nevada and California high school seniors or graduates to its new intercollegiate women's soccer team, the college announced today. WNCC will host a signing ceremony for its inaugural team members on Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the Dini Student Center, Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway. Eighteen athletes have signed to play for the Wildcats in 2005-2006.
Head Women's Soccer Coach Hillary Arthur said, "From day one, it was my goal to sign 18 players for the first ever WNCC Wildcats women's soccer team. All of these recruits bring excellent experience, knowledge and athleticism to the team. Individually, each will contribute something vital to the success of the team and to the building of traditions at WNCC."
The Wildcats are members of the Scenic West Athletic Conference and the Division 1 National Junior College Athletic Association, which allows WNCC to offer athletic scholarships as well as afford students the opportunity to utilize the Millennium Scholarship and other types of financial assistance.
The Wildcats begin competing in August with their first home games at Edmonds Field in WNCC's Labor Day Classic Tournament. The team will play Feather River College of California and SWAC member North Idaho College in the tournament.
Coach Arthur will introduce these student athletes, along with new Assistant Head Coach Elena Sfetcu, at the signing. Athletes are listed with their positions, most recent school attended and hometown.
