Press Release
Awaken your creative genius this fall. Western Nevada Community College is offering English 205, Introduction to Creative Writing (call #38968, Sec. C01), on Mondays from 7-9:45 p.m.
The three-credit class, taught by Professor Marilee Swirczek, is not a technical course in the craft of writing fiction or poetry, but rather a class that examines the ways human beings discover insights about themselves using the language of narrative, creative nonfiction, and poetry.
Swirczek, an English professor since 1989 and lead faculty member for the Division of Communication & Fine Arts, has been named Outstanding Instructor by WNCC students and received the Nevada Regents' Teaching Award in 2001.
"Writers should write," Swirczek says. "In order to write, writers must trust the creative process. We will read contemporary poems, essays and short stories and students will write freely in whatever genre appeals to them. The class is a lively, meaningful, and kind writing and learning experience."
English 101 and 102, or permission of the instructor, are prerequisites for the course, which may be taken for credit or audit. The fee is $164.25. The WNCC fall semester begins Friday, Aug. 26. Register on the WNCC web site at www.wnc.edu.
