Golf, Fun & Prizes to be Featured at WNCC/Greater Nevada Credit Union Golf Classic

The eighth annual Western Nevada Community College/ Greater Nevada Credit Union Golf Classic will tee off at Thunder Canyon Golf Course in Washoe Valley on Monday, Aug. 8. Proceeds from the tournament benefit special projects at the college. The tournament, which is sponsored by the WNCC Foundation and Greater Nevada Credit Union, starts with a kick-off party on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the Pi˝on Plaza Hotel Casino. Pinon Plaza owner Clark Russell is hosting the party and providing all the food and drinks.

Guests at the kick-off party will also receive a $40 Thunder Canyon gift certificate and a bottle of fine wine. Local golf pros will be giving free pointers, and two of the door prizes are Million Dollar Swings sponsored by John Anderson Construction and Bret Andreas State Farm. The winners will have a chance after the tournament to make a shot from 165 yards from the pin on the 18th hole at Thunder Canyon for one million dollars.

The tournament, a shotgun four-person scramble, starts at 9 a.m. and includes a continental breakfast, on-course refreshments, tee prizes, contests, raffles and an awards ceremony and barbecue following the tournament. KOLO TV Sports Director Bryan Samudio will be the master of ceremonies for the awards ceremony. There are four hole-in-one chances to win cars, a Sea-Doo and a Harley-Davidson. Raffle prizes at the awards ceremony include a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 40-punch play card at Eagle Valley Golf East and West.

Entry fee for corporation or company teams is $800 for four players. The individual player fee is $150. To sign up for the tournament, call the WNCC Foundation office at 445-3240.
