Western Nevada Community College is expressing its gratitude to Banner Churchill Community Hospital for its strong community support and contributions to the college's rural nursing program with a reception on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The event is 1-3 p.m. in WNCC's nursing laboratory at 485 West B St.
Banner Churchill has committed $400,000 to the college to pay nursing instructor salaries for the rural nursing program, which currently has 16 students getting most of their nursing training and clinical experience in Fallon. In addition, the hospital has contributed equipment and supplies to the clinic, including the use of two computerized mannequins worth $72,000. The simulated patients can be programmed to exhibit symptoms of various ailments, which students must then diagnose. There will be a demonstration of the mannequins at the reception.
The WNCC nursing program was recently reaccredited through 2012 by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. This year, 44 WNCC nursing graduates have received their degrees and nursing pins, and all are employed in the nursing field.
