Take a ride to the Western Nevada Community College main campus this Saturday on the new Carson City public buses during "Free Ride October," and enjoy free Wildcats baseball team scrimmages, snacks, and giveaways. WNCC has invited the community to "Jump on JAC" (Jump Around Carson) and ride the new bus system to campus on Saturday, Oct. 8, to enjoy the scrimmage games between the new baseball Wildcats and the Las Vegas Stars at 10 a.m.; the Reno Astros, at 1 p.m. and a game between the Las Vegas Stars and the Reno Astros at 4 p.m. Fans will receive snacks, balloons and giveaways from 1-4 p.m. Visitors who ride JAC to campus will be given a chance to win two "WNCC Wildcat" prizes.
The John L. Harvey field opened its doors on September 11. The field is still being completed and seating has not yet been installed, so bringing a folding chair might be a good idea, unless you don't mind a little desert dust!
The Las Vegas Stars are high school all-stars mostly from Las Vegas and the West Coast, while the Reno Astros are a semi-pro team. Fall scrimmages do not count in Scenic West Conference standings but help prepare the Wildcats for their 40-game spring conference season.
During October, new fixed route Carson City bus service is free. Buses operate 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. One of the main routes will bring students and the community to WNCC, 2201 West College Pkwy. Bus route info: 887-2323.
