Five Nevada high school seniors or graduates have signed letters of commitment to Western Nevada Community College to play on its 2006 intercollegiate women's soccer team, the college announced today. WNCC hosted a signing ceremony for its incoming team members at the Joe Dini Student Center on the Carson City campus.
Western completed its inaugural season this fall in the Scenic West conference with a 6-6-3 record, and competed in the post-season conference tournament.
Head Coach Hillary Arthur said she was pleased with her team's first season, and looks to the new recruits to strengthen and solidify the roster. "It's a solid record to build on," she said.
Athletes who signed include:
Samantha Carter: Outside Midfielder/Forward - North Valleys High School
Tianna Golliglee: Right wing/Striker - Galena High School
Courtney Lenhart: Midfielder/Forward – Douglas High School
Ali Pyne: Defender – Douglas High School
Allie Otto: Goalkeeper - Carson High School
The Scenic West is a Division I conference which allows WNCC to offer scholarships and affords students the opportunity to utilize the Millennium Scholarship and other types of financial assistance. WNCC student-athletes must attend full-time and work toward a college degree.
