Looking to change careers or start a new one in a field that offers many job opportunities? Western Nevada Community College offers many classes this spring that can lead to a successful career. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 23.
Civil Drafting I (CADD 230B, Call #15538, Sec. C01), on Thursdays from 7-9:45 p.m., is a three-credit class that can lead to a field with many job opportunities. Brian McRae of Lumos and Associates will teach the use of AutoCAD Land Development Desktop software in the class. Cost is $194.25.
American Sign Language I (AM 145, Call #10532, Sec. C01), on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m., is a three-credit course that leads to another high demand profession. Sign language is the third most used language in the United States. This class focuses on development of basic conversation skills. Cost is $219.
Another hot career is computer programming. Introduction to Programming (CIT 129, Call #12431, Sec. W01) is a three-credit Internet class on computer program design and development. Alice, a groundbreaking learning tool, will be utilized.
Two English classes that can lead to a variety of careers include Themes of Literature - Great Books (ENG 223, Call #14121, Sec. C02) on Thursdays, and The Experimental Novel (ENG 223, Call #13007, Sec. C01) on Tuesdays, both from 7-9:45 p.m. Great Books will cover works written before and during the Italian Renaissance, and Experimental Novel will explore short stories, plays, and novels. Cost is $164.25 for each three-credit class.
The demand for skilled integration professionals has also grown significantly. Special Topics in Electronics (ET 198B, Call #17113, Sec. C01), on Thursdays from 2:30-5:15 p.m., will teach students how to install and integrate systems for audio, video, home surveillance, high speed internet, telephone, and home automation. Cost is $164.25 for this three-credit class.
