College Goal Sunday
All three Western Nevada Community College campuses are taking part in College Goal Sunday this weekend, a statewide program to help potential students apply for financial assistance and chart a course to an affordable college education. WNCC Carson City, Fallon and Douglas will all be open on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 2-4 p.m.
"Graduating high school students are encouraged to bring their parents," WNCC Director of Financial Assistance Lori Tiede said. "This year, we will also have someone providing assistance to Spanish-speaking students at the Carson City campus."
At the two-hour moderated session, financial aid professionals will help college-bound students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid that is required by educational institutions nationwide for students seeking financial assistance. This includes grants, loans, and scholarships (including Nevada's Millennium Scholarship) and other financial awards.
"The majority of Nevada's college students qualify for some kind of financial aid, which includes loans, work study, grants and scholarship. The first step is completing the required forms correctly and on time," said Dr. Jane Nichols, Nevada System of Higher Education vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and chair for this year's event.
Organizers suggest students visit www.cgs.nevada.edu for basic information about the event and specific locations for each program. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.
