Ira Slagowski, two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, will serve as honorary chair for Western Nevada Community College's fifth annual Rodeo Team Dinner and Dance on Saturday, March 25, at the Fallon Convention Center.
"Rodeo has been good to me, so now I need to give back to Nevada," Elko native and Carlin resident Slagowski said. Slagowski qualified for the National Finals Rodeo for the first time in 2003, then again in the saddle bronc event in 2004.
Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange rodeo stories with Slagowski during the fund-raiser's no-host cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m. A barbecue-style dinner and silent auction will follow at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude with a live auction and dancing until midnight to the music of R. O. K. Vibrations.
The event's goal is to raise $20,000 for the college's rodeo operations. WNCC receives no state funding for expenses and must support the rodeo team through private and corporate donations. Proceeds will pay for coaches' salaries, practice stock rental and feed, practice arena rental, and team travel in Nevada and California.
Featured live auction items include a four-person spa donated by Bill Irwin of Aqua-Tech Pools Spas & Saunas; a two-day Lake Tahoe getaway offered by Virgil Getto; a one-night getaway at the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa in Reno; and a weekend of fishing with Pat Fisler.
Tickets are $25 per person or $200 for a table of eight. Anyone interested in donating auction items or purchasing a table or ticket to the fund-raiser should contact Kathy McGee at WNCC Fallon.
Tickets are also available in Fallon at Jeff's Copy Express, 235 South Maine St.; Feeds of Nevada, 2290 Reno Highway; and Big R, 3325 Reno Highway.
