WNCC Multicultural Festival Features Music, Dance and Food

The whole family can enjoy a world of dancing, food and exhibits at Western Nevada Community College's 11th annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday, May 13, at the Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway. Admission is free to the festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Multicultural entertainment will include the Reno Taiko Drummers, Kaulana NaPua O Hula, and Kantu Machupicchu-Peru performing; a Tae Kwon Do martial arts demonstration; and dancing from around the world, including country western line dancing, Argentina tango, and modern Mexican dancing. The entertainment schedule will be as follows:

More than 20 exhibitors will also be on hand offering unique gift items from around the world, arts and crafts, and cultural information. They will include Bantu Spirit, Carson Sierra Spinners and Weavers, the Chinese Cultural Group, the Daughters of Norway, the Japanese Student Action Network, Nevada Hispanic Services, Nevada Society of Scottish Clans, Romiti Art, Soka Gakkai International, and more.

Kids can get their faces painted at the Children's Culture Center sponsored by the WNCC United Students Association. Students from WNCC's Early Childhood Development diversity class will present hands-on activities for young children, including ribbon-braiding and Irish folk dancing.
