"Grease" to Roll Into Carson City

"Grease," the most popular, fun-filled musical in the history of rock 'n' roll, is cruising into Carson City. The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company brings the celebrated classic to the Carson City Community Center in seven performances, May 12-21.

"Grease" originally opened as a Broadway production, but reached fame when it was released as a movie, starring John Travolta. The movie won the Golden Screen and People's Choice awards, and is credited as being the largest grossing motion picture musical.

Set in 1956, the story follows the unlikely romance of wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski and greaser Danny Zuko with their pink lady and t-bird friends at Rydell High School. The show includes such classic numbers as "Summer Nights," "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee," and "Greased Lightnin'."

Playing Danny Zuko in this production is Leoney Berg, known to WNMTC audiences as the beast in "Beauty and the Beast" and Billy Bigelow in "Carousel." Therese Curatolo as Sandy Dumbrowski. Marcus Quiroga as Kenickie, and Jennifer Dunn as Rizzo round out the cast.

Some 40 singers and dancers complete the cast, accompanied by a live orchestra. Stephanie Arrigotti produces and directs, and Gina Kaskie-Davis is the choreographer.

"Grease" is the second musical of the 2006 WNMTC musical theatre season, which also includes the Broadway masterwork "Brigadoon" in November. Partial season ticket packages for the two remaining shows, offering preferred seating and substantial discounts, are available by calling 775-445-4249.

Admission to individual shows is $18 general, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for youth 17 and younger. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, May 20.
