Looking to earn English class credits? Enjoy your summer, stay home, and take a course online. Western Nevada Community College is offering students two chances to take English 101 on the Web this summer. Interested? Register now because summer classes begin June 12.
Composition I (ENG 101, call #22096, Sec. W01) and (ENG 101, call #28443, Sec. W03) will emphasize readings and discussions on current topics like the war in Iraq and the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina. Students will tap into their own interests and experiences to write organized and interesting essays.
"Students in my courses often tell me that they found it easy to write for the first time because they could tap into their own experiences and interests to write involving essays," said John Fleming, WNCC English instructor. "My class will use the Web to their advantage, and students will engage not only with each other, but also the vast repository of information that is the Internet."
The two classes are conducted entirely online with no in-class appearances. "I've built in a lot of flexibility so that students can still enjoy their summer while being productive in the class as well," said Fleming. "I am also offering personalized assistance for the first-time online student via workshops or phone conversations, and a peer mentor from the class will be available for student support as well."
Cost: $173.25. A full schedule and class descriptions are available online at www.wnc.edu.
