Chelsee Tuni, a member of the Western Nevada Community College rodeo team, placed first in average in a rodeo at California State University in Fresno, Calif. Tuni received $230.40 in prize money for her efforts in the rodeo that had over 50 participants.
“I was halfway screaming through the whole thing,” Tuni said. “I was so excited.” Tuni had a great overall performance finishing first in average, second in the barrel racing short go, and third in the barrel racing long go.
With Tuni's performance, the WNCC rodeo team moved up from ninth to seventh place in the west coast region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's women's teams. Tuni also advanced from 14th to sixth in women's barrel racing standings.
Next stop for Tuni and the rodeo team is May 12-13 at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
