Business & Technology Professor Bonnie York will retire this year after 32 years of teaching at Western Nevada Community College in Fallon. A community open house and celebration of York's many years of contributions will be Friday, May 19, from 5-8 p.m. in Virgil Getto Hall at WNCC Fallon, 160 Campus Way. Friends, colleagues, and students are invited to this free event.
During her illustrious career, York has been awarded the Presidential Excellence in Teaching Award and the Regents Teaching Award. She was also the first recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Member Award.
York has dedicated her life to shaping the college's computer program. She has taught a broad range of courses in accounting, bookkeeping, computer applications, office management, and was responsible for establishing the first computer networks and labs in Fallon. York has also served on the college's curriculum, peer development, sabbatical, and Faculty Senate committees.
After part-time teaching for WNCC for 6 years, Bonnie was hired as the first full-time instructor at the Fallon campus in July 1977. Before joining WNCC, she taught in public schools in Reno and Fallon.
