Looking to learn how to drive safely in Nevada's challenging driving situations? Western Nevada Community College is offering a 30-hour New Driver Training course in three different sessions. The classes, funded in part by a State Farm Insurance grant, will be Mondays and Wednesdays, June 19, 21, 26, & 28; Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 27, 29 & July 11, 13; and Mondays and Wednesdays, July 10,12, 17 & 19, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at the WNCC Fernley Center, 1340 Highway 95A.
The WNCC Driver Training course meets the training requirements needed for new drivers under 18 years of age looking to obtain a Nevada driver's license. The classroom course uses lectures, videos, interactive CD's, and driving simulators to cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and driving maneuvers in various situations and environments.
Class discussions will include peer pressure, high-risk activities, and added challenges of inexperience and youthful attitudes. The class does not include behind the wheel driving.
According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, two out of five teen deaths are a result of motor vehicle accidents. Teenagers between 16 and 19 years of age are four times more likely to crash than older drivers. These drivers can also be a danger to other drivers, pedestrians, and passengers.
Most insurance companies offer a discount for taking a certified driver training course. Cost for this class is $95. Info: 775-575-3348.
