Western Nevada Community College's fledgling baseball team was well represented on the 2006 Scenic West Athletic Conference All-Region Team. Third baseman Tyson Jaquez, one of two freshmen honored, made the first team, while Thomas Miller, Kyle Bondurant, and Dan Grubbs were selected for the second team.
Jaquez ended the year with a .313 batting average, 55 hits, 25 runs scored, 21 RBI, and 64 total bases. According to the SWAC final stats, he was ninth in batting average, fifth in hits, and tenth in total bases. Jaquez led WNCC in batting average and hits. He played in all 55 games, including a team-leading 176 at-bats. Jaquez signed a national letter of intent to play next year for the University of Nevada, Reno.
Power-hitting first baseman Miller had a .235 batting average, 40 hits, 26 runs scored, 32 RBI, and 74 total bases. In the conference, he was second in home runs, tied for the lead in RBI and doubles (18); and sixth in total bases and slugging percentage (.447). He led the Wildcats in runs scored, RBI, home runs, doubles, triples, total bases, and slugging percentage. Miller also played in all 55 games.
Second baseman Bondurant ended the year with a .309 batting average, 46 hits, 23 runs scored, 19 RBI, and 53 total bases. Among all SWAC players, he finished first in walks; sixth in on-base percentage; and eleventh in batting average and hits. He led his team in walks and on-base percentage, and played in 54 of 55 games.
Grubbs was the only relief pitcher named to the first or second team with a 1.26 earned run average, three wins, no losses, 36 strikeouts, 11 walks, and 32.2 innings pitched. In the conference, he was second in appearances (20) and games in relief (20); third in fewest runs allowed (5); and fifth in earned run average. He led his team in earned run average, appearances, and lowest opponents' batting average.
