Employees who exhibit superior customer service skills can advance quickly in the business world. Many large companies point to customer service as their number one reason for success. Western Nevada Community College recognizes this need in the business community and has developed a new 30-credit Certificate of Achievement program in customer service, with classes being offered this summer at WNCC Fallon, and other campuses and centers via interactive video.
Interactive video classes will offer two-way audio and video from WNCC Fallon to Carson City, Douglas, Fernley, Lovelock, Smith Valley, and Yerington at the regularly scheduled times.
The customer service program will offer students business courses with a special focus on customer service. It is designed to develop vital skills for success in all facets of business and industry by emphasizing effective communication, problem solving, and customer satisfaction.
Structured in a modular format, students who choose four, eight, or all 12 credits of the specialized customer service classes will receive certificates of completion which document their progress and provide proof of job skills as they move through the program. The new classes can be also applied to other WNCC business degrees.

Resolving Customer Complaints (BUS 118B, call #23322, Sec. F01) is offered Monday through Thursday, June 19-22, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The class will cover the importance of recognizing, resolving, and preventing guest complaints. It will focus on the development of constructive techniques to interact with complaining customers.
Work Time Management Goal Setting (BUS 115B, call #26446, Sec. F01) will be available Monday through Thursday, June 19-22, from 1:30-5:30 p.m. This class will focus on the evaluation and development of effective time management methods and goal setting techniques for career success.
Decision Making Conflict Resolution (BUS 119B, call #20233, Sec. F01) will be Monday through Thursday, June 12-15, from 12-4 p.m. It will cover the evaluation and development of decision-making procedures, conflict resolution techniques, and stress reduction strategies for career success.
Business Professor Irene Joanette-Gallio, M.Ed., has been teaching classes at WNCC for more than 20 years in management, human relations, supervision, business communication, customer service and more. She also has an extensive background in office management and supervision. "I have a passion for good service and like to hear about the experience students have in customer service," she said. "I challenge my students to exceed expectations and become empowered customer service ambassadors."
Cost for each class is $57.75.
