Five Nevada high school seniors or graduates signed letters of commitment to Western Nevada Community College to play on its 2006 intercollegiate women's soccer team. WNCC hosted a signing ceremony for its incoming team members at the Joe Dini Student Center on the Carson City campus.
Western completed its inaugural season this fall in the Scenic West conference with a 6-6-3 record, and competed in the post-season conference tournament.
Athletes who signed include:
Christina Bradshaw: Forward - Douglas High School. Four-year varsity player, three-year starter. 53 goals in high school career (second all-time in Douglas/Northern AAAA history). Team won Northern AAAA Title her sophomore year, second in Northern AAAA as a freshman and junior, and Sierra League Champs in 2002 & 2004.
Meghan Olsen: Defender/Midfielder - Douglas High School. Was on varsity team for three years. Served as team captain senior year. Received team's most valuable player award and was named all-league second team defender. Was on academic honor roll last semester.
Brittany Romito: Forward/Midfielder - Silverado High School. Four-year lettermen scored 45 goals in her high school career. Named to conference team in freshman year. Competed in state semi-finals in sophomore year. Was on regional championship team in senior year.
Virginia Loyola, a center/midfielder from South Tahoe High School, and Samantha Saquella, a forward from North Valleys High School, signed with the Wildcats but were not present at the ceremony.
The Scenic West is a Division I conference which allows WNCC to offer scholarships and affords students the opportunity to utilize the Millennium Scholarship and other types of financial assistance. WNCC student-athletes must attend full-time and work toward a college degree.
