The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents gave their approval for Western Nevada Community College to purchase 4.8 acres on the west side of the Fallon campus. WNCC does not have immediate plans to build on the property, however, the college can now start thinking toward the future.
"My appreciation goes out to Carl and Bette Dodge, Virgil Getto, the City of Fallon, and Churchill County for contributing the funds and to the Board of Regents for making it happen," said WNCC Fallon Dean Bus Scharmann.
The land will be paid with private contributions and a bank loan for $100,000. More than $590,000 in contributions has already been received from the Carl & Bette Dodge Limited Trust, Virgil Getto, the City of Fallon, and Churchill County.
The Fallon campus is currently landlocked on 12 acres, with the Virgil Getto Hall being the last construction project at the college in 1992.
In 2003, the college began work on a master plan for WNCC Fallon that focused on future development, as well as acquisition of property. In 2004, WNCC started negotiations for acquiring the industrial-zoned property from the Jack N. Tedford Limited Partnership.
