The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will hold open auditions for "Brigadoon" Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 6 p.m., in Rm. 207 of Western Nevada Community College's Aspen Building.
Auditioners should come prepared to sing a song under one minute long. They may bring a taped accompaniment or provide the pianist with a musical score. Callbacks will follow on Thursday evening.
Written by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, "Brigadoon" is a mystical love story set in Scotland. A New Yorker loses his way on a hunting trip in the Scottish highlands, discovers a town that appears once every hundred years, and falls in love with a local lass. The show features such love songs as "Almost Like Being In Love" and "The Heather On The Hill," interspersed with Scottish sword dances and ethnically-inspired dances.
The show won both Tony Awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and was later made into a movie. WNMTC's production will play in nine performances at the Carson City Community Center, November 4-19.
Casting calls for 16 speaking roles, several soloists, a dance troupe, and a chorus. Leading roles will be played by performers who are approximately 30 years old.
The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is a critically acclaimed regional theater company operated through the Performing Arts Program at WNCC, drawing tour buses from all around Nevada and California. Their last fall performance, "Fiddler on the Roof," drew more than 4,700 people. Stephanie Arrigotti is producer/director; Gina Kaskie-Davis is the choreographer.
Everyone accepted in either cast must register for the appropriate WNCC musical theatre course to participate in the productions. All for-credit students will receive a scholarship to defray half their tuition. This course applies to the Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Musical Theatre.
