Attending Western Nevada Community College in Fallon will be easier this fall for students with small children. Aerial Unlimited Childcare & Gymnastics plans to offer day and evening child care at reduced hourly rates for WNCC students during the semester that starts Monday, Aug. 28. Applications for child care financial assistance are also available.
Interested parents are encouraged to inquire right away, because WNCC Fallon financial assistance for child care is available on a first come, first served basis. In addition, Aerial Unlimited needs at least five students to sign up for the evening care to continue their 7 a.m.-10 p.m. hours of operation.
"Unaffordable day and evening child care is a major reason why students with children might not be able to complete their college degree," WNCC Counselor Ron Marrujo said. "By reducing this barrier, we believe many more students will be able to attend classes and achieve their educational goals."
Aerial Unlimited is an independent business and has no contractual agreement with the college. They accept children 15 months and older and ask that students present their class schedules at least one week in advance so the staff can plan. Parents can pay for the entire semester or for a week in advance.
To help defray these costs, students can receive financial assistance of $25 per college course credit plus $50 per child. Students must attend class, complete at least 67 percent of their credits with a 2.0 grade point average or better, and provide evidence that they are utilizing a licensed child care facility.
