There are courses for everyone at Western Nevada Community College in Fallon this fall. The college is offering several new classes and programs including a health and wellness class for seniors, a College for Kids fall program, and a memoirs class for anyone wanting to recall or share their life story.
"Health & Wellness for Seniors," offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-noon will provide an overview of wellness issues that can influence an older person's quality of life.
The non-credit class will run in three different modules from September 11-November 15. Cost is $10 per module and participants can choose one, two, or all three modules. The first module, September 11-October 2, will cover health care costs; the second, October 4-18, will review nutrition and cooking; and the third, October 23-November 15, will teach coping strategies.
College for Kids classes will be offered for the first time during the fall term. Featured topics include babysitting CPR on Saturday, Sept. 2, babysitting certification on Saturday, Sept. 16, ballroom dancing October 9-December 11, making a family tree mobile October 18-November 15, and smooth talking, walking and basic etiquette September 13-October 4. Classes are available for children ages 5 to 15.
The memoirs class will allow students to share their writings by reading aloud to other members of the class. In Memoir and Autobiography (ENG 226, Call #32282, Sec. F01), on Mondays from 2:30-5:15 p.m., students will also read published writers' works and discuss narrative structures and how to critique them. Cost: $169.50.
