Learn How to Treat and Prevent Athletic Injuries
Coaches, athletes, students, fitness professionals, and physical therapists have a new place to go to learn about athletic injuries. Western Nevada Community College is offering a class on the care and prevention of athletic injuries, starting Monday, Aug. 28.
Special Topics: Prevention of Athletic Injuries (PEX 199, Call #36546, Sec. C01) will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45 p.m. at Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman, Rm. 257. This three-credit course costs $169.50.
“We will cover basic anatomy, basic rehabilitation, taping, first aid, and CPR,” said instructor Frank Sakelarios, who works as an athletic trainer at Carson High School. “We will provide students with knowledge of athletic injuries, and discuss how to treat them, and to prevent them from happening.”
The class is open to any student, and the credits apply as electives to associate degrees at WNCC. Students interested in a career in the field can begin their studies at WNCC and then transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students planning to transfer are encouraged to meet with a WNCC counselor to design a program that will best meet their needs.
