Defense Rules Again in Wildcats Victory

Return to the Women's Soccer home page

The Western Nevada Community College Wildcats women’s soccer team (2-0-2) continued their excellent defense this season holding the College of the Redwoods scoreless in a 4-0 victory Friday in Eureka, Calif. On Thursday, WNCC battled to a 0-0 tie against Shasta College on a very hot day in Redding, Calif.

In the Friday victory, goalkeeper Allie Otto, from Carson High School, was the defensive star of the game with four saves in the first half. Goalie Rachelle Goulet added two saves in the second half.

Offensive stars included a trio of Douglas High School graduates. Meghan Olsen scored two goals, Courtney Lenhart added a goal and two assists, and Christina Bradshaw contributed one goal. All of WNCC’s scoring was done in the first half.

In Thursday’s tie, Otto was again the defensive standout with two saves in the first half and two in the second. The Wildcats had several shots on goal but failed to convert on a blistering day that exceeded triple digit temperatures.

The Wildcats will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., on Tuesday to face Paradise Valley Community College at 3:30 p.m., and then to Douglas, Ariz., on Wednesday to play against Cochise College at noon. WNCC returns home Saturday in a noon match against Colorado Mountain College at the Edmonds Sports Complex.
