WNCC Recognizes Outstanding Faculty and Staff

Western Nevada Community College has honored several outstanding WNCC employees for their contributions over the past year to students and the college.

Institutional Research Statistician Barbara Ford was named the Classified Employee of the Year. Ford administers internal surveys including student course evaluations. “I was thrilled, honored, and humbled to win,” said Ford, a 12-year WNCC employee.

Professor of English Michon Mackedon was named Outstanding Academic Faculty Member of the Year. Mackedon teaches at WNCC Fallon and serves as chair for the WNCC Communication & Fine Arts division.

Student Services Programmer/Analyst Eric Thornton was named Administrator of the Year. Thornton works with student data, runs reports and keeps the student system running at WNCC. “I consider myself someone who works behind the scenes so it was really nice to be recognized,” he said. “Having the spotlight on me for this award really let me know that my projects are appreciated.”

Part-time instructor Marie Gibson was named the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year. She teaches accounting and computer applications. “I am extremely honored to be selected for the award,” Gibson said. “I am proud of WNCC and its accomplishments; it has made contributing to the community easy.”

Counseling Services Coordinator Sue Muller took home the Regents Academic Advisor award. Muller provides academic and career counseling to WNCC students and prospective students. “I come in every day and try to do my best,” she said. “I am very humbled and honored to receive the award. Muller has been a counselor at WNCC for 12 years.

The Team of the Year was the Multicultural Events Committee that organized the annual WNCC Multicultural Festival last spring. Team members included Linda Hipol-Rollings, Rosalba Cadena DeArmas, Elvia Garcia, Lupe Ramirez, Mike Sturm, Teri Zutter, Elizabeth Contreras, Claire Yurovchak, Lynda Mae, and Lori Magnante.
