Midfielder Courtney Lenhart scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Western Nevada Community College women's soccer team (4-5-2) to an important 4-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory Friday against Salt Lake Community College. Saturday's home game against Snow College was cancelled because of travel complications.
"We were very opportunistic in our shots on goal," said Head Coach Hillary Arthur. "This win was impressive considering our star sweeper, Dominique Gloude, sat out the game with a strained MCL."
After surrendering two early Bruin goals, the Wildcats sprang back with four unanswered markers. At the 43-minute mark, midfielder Demi Vega lifted a high pass to Lenhart who buried the ball past a Bruin goaltender for WNCC's first score. Midfielder Melissa Goldfin tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted goal, 19 minutes into the second half, after cleanly stripping the ball from a Bruin defender.
Lenhart, a former Douglas High standout, scored her second goal 17 seconds later on a midfield feed from Courtney Hayes. Hannah Lee closed out the scoring for Western at the 82-minute mark after a feed from Lenhart, who had beaten a Bruin midfielder to the ball.
The Wildcats will travel to Oroville, Calif., on Tuesday to face Butte College, and then return home Saturday to host North Idaho College at 11 a.m. at the Edmonds Sports Complex. Admission is free.
