Look closely through the mist this November, and you'll discover the enchantment of a magical Scottish village, full of magic and romance. The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will present Lerner and Loewe's award-winning "Brigadoon" for three weekends at the Carson City Community Center, November 4-19.
Written by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, "Brigadoon" is a mystical love story set in Scotland. A New Yorker loses his way on a hunting trip in the Scottish highlands, discovers a town that appears once every hundred years, and falls in love with a local lass. It features such love songs as "Almost Like Being In Love" and "The Heather On The Hill," animated with colorful Scottish sword dances and highland flings.
The show, which won both Tony Awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, was later made into a movie starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. Playing Tommy and Fiona in WNMTC's nine-performance production are Christopher Willson and Sarah Pennebaker. Kirk Gardner and Lynette Brown play their comic counterparts, Jeff and Meg.
The WNMTC is a critically acclaimed regional theater company, drawing tour buses from all around Nevada and California. Stephanie Arrigotti produces and directs, Gina Kaskie-Davis is the choreographer.
Admission to individual shows is $18 general, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for youth 17 and younger. Tickets are available in Reno at Maytan Music, 777 South Center St.; in Carson City at Comma Coffee, 312 South Carson St.; and the Western Nevada Community College Performing Arts Office, 2201 West College Parkway; or by phone at 775-445-4249.
