After a tough 1-0 loss to Salt Lake Community College on Friday, the Western Nevada Community College women's soccer team (7-8-2) came back strong Saturday to score a season-high eight goals to defeat Snow College 8-0. Western will now face North Idaho College on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for the Scenic West Athletic Conference Championship.
"We've been in a bit of a slump and we needed to climb out of it," said Head Coach Hillary Arthur. "This was a good win and a morale booster. It would be very rewarding if we could win the league championship in our second year."
WNCC has lost both games this year to North Idaho in close, low-scoring contests. Now, it has a chance for redemption.
In Friday's loss to Salt Lake, the Wildcats battled through a scoreless first half until a penalty was called at the 36-minute mark. WNCC goaltender Rachelle Goulet, who had five saves, was whistled for knocking down a player and Salt Lake made the penalty kick.
On Saturday, the Wildcats put an end to their scoring drought in a big way. Jessica Maule scored three goals, Hannah Lee added two, and Demi Vega, Melissa Goldfin and Ali Pyne pitched in one each. Western scored two goals in the first half and six in the second.
The Wildcats will close the regular season against Colorado Mountain College on October 20 and Auraria Football College on October 21 in Spring Valley, Colo.
