It's been 10 years since Alicia and Manuel Beck made the largest donation ever to Western Nevada Community College's Fallon campus library. To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the $400,000 endowment, the Beck Library is planning a weeklong celebration Monday-Thursday, Oct. 23-26. Complimentary refreshments will be offered to the public, along with giveaways to WNCC students of iPods, T-shirts and Jive 'N' Java cafe gift certificates.
The Beck Library endowment has supported students and academic programs at the Fallon campus with a variety of resources, supplies, and access services. In 1996, the library was able to expand their services and purchase new equipment, furniture, videos and books. In all, nearly 2,500 books have been purchased from the endowment.
"We would like the community to come visit and check out the many services we offer, and celebrate the endowment anniversary at the same time," WNCC Audio Visual Assistant Brandi Wygle said. "The giveaways are for our students but the free food and beverages are for everyone."
An iPod will be given away each day to students visiting the library. One-gigabyte iPods will be handed out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. and the grand prize 30-gigabyte iPod will be awarded on Thursday at 1 p.m. Students must visit the library to enter. Info: 775-423-2241.
