The WNCC women's soccer team (9-8-2) closed out their season with three straight wins to advance to the Scenic West Athletic Conference championship game against North Idaho College at 11 a.m. Saturday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
The Wildcats reached their highest scoring output of the season in Friday's game, beating Colorado Mountain College 13-0 in Spring Valley, Colo. Eleven Wildcats scored in the bitter-cold contest, led by Hannah Lee with two goals and two assists.
"The win was very enjoyable because everybody got playing time," said Head Coach Hillary Arthur. "It was a great way to end our regular season."
Courtney Hayes scored 29 seconds into the contest, and Virginia Loyola added another goal at the 11-minute mark. Courtney Lenhart and Lee then added two goals each to make the score 6-0 at halftime. In the second half, WNCC got scores from Allie Otto, Sabrina Cantrell, Phalon Mauntel, Meghan Olsen, Savannah Gray, Melissa Goldfin, and Demi Vega.
Saturday's scheduled game against Auraria College was canceled, resulting in a forfeit win for Western. The win clinched a .500 season for the Wildcats, who went 6-6-3 last year in their inaugural season.
The Wildcats have lost both games this year to North Idaho in close, low-scoring contests. The winner of the championship game will advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association playoffs on November 16.
