Waiting to buy tickets for Western Nevada Community College Fallon's upcoming "Fiddler on the Roof" performances? Don't wait too long. Ticket sales are brisk for the shows, which play Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 9-11 and 16-18, at 7 p.m. in the Churchill County High School Theater.
Kevin Karp plays Tevye, a poor dairyman who raises five daughters in an ever-changing Russian society. As three of his oldest marry, Tevye is forced to adjust, and change his values.
"Fiddler on the Roof," one of the most popular musicals in the world, is set in a small eastern European village called Anatevka. The story illustrates how strong family ties, customs, and love can help carry a Jewish family through the woes of oppression, and the desolation of living in a shtetl, a place where a minority group was forced to live isolated from society.
An upbeat message rings through "Fiddler on the Roof," however, as the citizens of Anatevka refuse to give up and choose instead to embrace their condition and live life to the fullest. Moments of pride and joy occur as Tevye and the villagers find that their future is as precarious as a fiddler on a roof.
Mary Myers directs, Bridget Rigg-Anderson is assistant director and stage manager, Debbie Edwards is choreographer, and Scott Thompson is artistic director.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $8 for children 12 years and under. Info: 775-423-7565.
