There's still time to apply for a scholarship to attend Western Nevada Community College in spring 2007. Information on local scholarships from various community organizations and individuals, as well as the Millennium Scholarship, and national scholarships are available online or through the WNCC Financial Assistance Office. WNCC's scholarship application deadline is Friday, Dec. 1.
Millennium Scholarships are worth up to $10,000. Students receive a maximum of $40 per credit hour, as long as they enroll in a minimum of six eligible credits. For more information on the Millennium Scholarship, contact the Office of the State Treasurer at http://nevadatreasurer.gov/.
Various national organizations offer scholarships as well, including one of the largest scholarships available to community college students offered by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Through this initiative, the foundation will award up to $30,000 annually to help students from two-year institutions pursue four-year degrees at any accredited college or university in the United States and abroad. For more information, visit www. jkcf.org or call 1-800-498-6478.
Many online scholarship opportunities are also available. One of the best ways for students to match their particular characteristics to scholarships is by doing an Internet search. Students may use computers in WNCC's library for this purpose.
For more information on scholarships, call Western's Financial Assistance Office at 775-445-3264 or visit http://www.wnc.edu/studentservices/financial/.
