Western Nevada Community College Yerington, in partnership with South Lyon Medical Center, invites anyone interested in a career as a nurse to attend an information session on the program. The first 45-minute session is for high school students on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2:45 p.m. at Yerington High School. The second session at SLMC, 6:30-8:30 p.m., is open to everyone.
"There is a great need for nurses across the country, especially in northern Nevada," said Kris Beck, SLMC director of employee services. "The nursing field is wide open, and there are a number of opportunities available. It just depends on what an individual is interested in."
Both sessions will include an overview of the nursing profession, a question and answer period, informal socializing, and an overview of the academic programs and financial aid available at WNCC. Western offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing.
"South Lyon Medical Center would like to assist local people accepted into the nursing program through scholarships and employment assistance," added Beck. "Nursing can be a very satisfying and rewarding career."
