The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will hold open auditions for two spring shows - the newly released, Tony Award-winning "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and the heart-warming classic "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" - Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. in Western Nevada Community College's Marlette Hall.
Auditioners should come prepared to sing a song under one minute long. They may bring a taped accompaniment or provide the accompanist with a musical score. Callbacks will follow on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," the musical animation of Charles Schultz' classic comic strip, will play at WNCC Carson City in eight performances March 30-April 8. The show, presented in its Broadway revival version, calls for six strong leads who sing, act and dance, as well as a four-person chorus/dance ensemble.
"Thoroughly Modern Millie," the Tony Award-winning 2002 musical based on the earlier movie, tells of a small town girl trying to make it in New York in the Roaring '20's. The show will play in seven performances at the Carson City Community Center, May 11-20. Casting calls for 16 singing, acting and dancing roles, several supporting roles, a dance troupe and a chorus.
Everyone accepted must register for the WNCC class, Music Ensemble 123, to participate in the productions. This course applies to the Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Musical Theatre. All credit students will receive a scholarship to defray half their tuition. WNMTC is a critically acclaimed regional theater company operated through the WNCC Performing Arts Program.
Stephanie Arrigotti will produce and direct both shows and Gina Kaskie-Davis will choreograph. Info: WNCC Performing Arts Office - 775-445-4249.
