Western Receives Scholarship Funds from Kennametal

Two Western Nevada Community College students will benefit from a $2,640 grant offered by local manufacturer Kennametal. The funds will create a scholarship that pays fees and tuition for two WNCC Fallon engineering/science students.

"Our long-lasting partnership with Kennametal has been very beneficial to both of us over the years," said WNCC Fallon Dean Bus Scharmann. "We are appreciative of this scholarship, which will benefit students who may be future employees of Kennametal."

The Kennametal Foundation dedicates 60 percent of their annual budget to post-secondary educational opportunities in communities where their different branches are located.

"We have been involved in the community for over 50 years and feel like we need to support higher education in Churchill County," Kennametal General Manager Gary Peterson said.

The WNCC Scholarship Committee will select the students to receive the two scholarships. For more information on the award, contact WNCC Director of Financial Assistance Lori Tiede at 775-445-3264 or tiedel@wnc.edu.
