In the latest Collegiate Baseball College Preview, three Western Nevada Community College baseball players were named among the best junior college players in the nation at their positions. Starting pitcher Justin Garcia, starting pitcher Cole Rohrbough, and first baseman Thomas Miller were the only three players named to the list from the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Garcia was named one of the top right-handers in the country. He finished last year with a 1.77 earned run average, an 8-4 record, 83 innings pitched, and 60 strikeouts. He led the Wildcats in wins, complete games (six), innings pitched, and strikeouts, and was tied with Rohrbough for most games started (14). Garcia will play next year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“It’s a real honor to be named,” Garcia said. “It’s nice to get the recognition.”

Rohrbough was named one of the top left-handers. He finished last year with a 3.23 earned run average, a 5-3 record, 56.1 innings pitched, and 52 strikeouts. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 22nd round, #670 overall, of the 2006 major league baseball draft. Next year, Rohrbough will play at Arizona State University.

Miller was named one of the top first basemen in the nation. He served as the Wildcats cleanup hitter last year and led his team in almost every hitting category including doubles (18), triples (2), home runs (4), runs batted in (32), total bases (74), runs scored (26), and slugging percentage (.435).

“It’s a privilege to be named; I’ve worked very hard for this,” Miller said. “Now it’s time for me to help out my team win a lot of games.”
