When it's time to take out the trash, don't do it. Rummage through it first and see if there's anything that can be used for Western Nevada Community College's 2007 Recycled Art(icles) Show. Last year, more than 50 local artists used their talent, imagination and unused objects to create paintings, sculptures, useful items and indescribable "things." The always-popular juried art show is back for the 12th consecutive year and will show in both the College Gallery and Main Gallery at the Carson City campus.
The object of the contest is to illustrate the phrase, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." Entries must be composed of recycled materials, and must consist of things that have been previously used for something else. The contest is open to students, college staff and the community.
The top three places and honorable mentions will be awarded at an artists' reception; cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($100), Most Creative ($75), and Most Useful ($75).
All entries will be accepted Thursday-Friday, March 29-30, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the information desk in the lobby of WNCC's Bristlecone Building.
Entries will be displayed April 2-19, with an artists' reception on Thursday, April 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and participate.
This year's event is sponsored by the WNCC United Students Association, the WNCC Art department, and the Recycled Art fan club volunteers.
