Artists Turn Castaways into Art at Recycled Art(icles) Show
Last year, more than 50 local artists used their talent, imagination and junk to create paintings, sculptures, useful items and indescribable "things" at Western Nevada Community College's Recycled Art(icles) show. The always-popular contest is back at the Main and College Galleries for its 12th consecutive year.
The object of the contest is to illustrate the phrase, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." Entries must be composed of recycled materials, and the materials must consist of things that have been previously used for something else. The contest is open to students, college staff and the community.
The top three places and honorable mentions will be awarded at an artists' reception on Thursday, April 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($100), Most Creative ($75), and Most Useful ($75).
Entries will be displayed Monday, April 2-Thursday, April 19, in the WNCC Bristlecone Building’s Main and College galleries.
This year's event is sponsored by the WNCC United Students Association, the WNCC Art department, and the Recycled Art fan club volunteers.
