WNCC Student Work Features “Mujer”
“Mujer,” an art exhibition by Sylvia Cervantes Howes, will be on display at Western Nevada Community College’s Getto Hall Gallery Monday-Friday, April 30-May 4. This series about the female experience, is part of the college’s student portfolio shows that are appearing in the gallery in April and May.
“This particular series began with a story of a young woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer and had overcome it,” Cervantes Howes said. “It started me on an expedition of exploring women in various circumstances who have overcome great pain and adversity. Whether it is physical or emotional, a woman endures much more than she reveals. This work is about exposing that part of the female soul that lies buried under layers of a socially acceptable facade.”
A reception for the artist will take place in the gallery on Monday, April 30, 4:30-6:30 p.m. The gallery is open during regular school hours.
